Today, Lesley Hirst gave an interesting insight into her grandfather Nathan Brown. She talked about the bond between herself and her grandfather as she was growing up, and described Nathan's talent in painting from an early age, but also his "duty" to the family to continue in his father's footsteps as a carpenter, instead of going to Art School. There was a display of Nathan's paintings brought in by members, and Lesley shared Nathan's sketches, artworks, newspaper cuttings and village school photographs. Nathan Brown and Tommy Clark were founder members of our club, which was established in 1963. Nathan painted the portrait of Queen Elizabeth ll which is displayed in the main hall, and Tommy painted the blacksmith's yard, at the end of Wilson's Lane, also displayed in the main hall. Please see our gallery for more of Nathan's paintings.
