Rachel’s Challenges 2025
For new members we bring our work to the group on the last Monday of the month
JANUARY - Produce a piece of artwork of a person or group you admire. This could be a family member or a famous person past or present or alternatively it could be a group-musical/charitable/firemen/seamen etc. It may be a portrait, or abstract or an image that represents the person or group.
FEBRUARY - Look for patterns that occur in the natural or man-made world. Your artwork doesn’t need to be an actual pattern but inspired by pattern
MARCH - Produce a piece of art work which incorporates collage or may be solely collage. Remember collage is not just about using paper. Be experimental.
APRIL - “A sign of the times.” What does this bring to mind for you? You might consider the past or present, or anything you think fits the theme.
MAY - ‘Opposites’ - large/small, soft/hard, land/sea, alive/dead, dark/light, or anything else that comes to mind
JUNE - “Layers” - this could be an observational piece e.g. a partially peeled orange or it may be interpreted literally by building up layers on your artwork - overlapping/glazing/ relief work in places.
JULY - Choose your favourite colour and produce a piece of art which uses all the hues, shades, and tints of that colour - in other words mix your colour e.g. if green is your choice, yellow green; green; green- blue. Don’t forget to add a little white or black to increase your range.
AUGUST - “The elements” - produce a piece of art that demonstrates an element e.g. a strong weather condition; strong wind, heavy rain, scorching day, snow, fire, water.
SEPTEMBER - “A view from above” or a view from below looking upwards.
OCTOBER - “Leisure” consider things that people do for leisure, this could be a still life or an image of the activity. It is also possible to represent this in an abstract way.
NOVEMBER - “Happiness is”- produce an image that includes words which state what makes you feel happy.
DECEMBER - Design and make a “Secret Santa” card (don’t put your name on it). Put a Christmas greeting inside e.g. Happy Xmas. Make sure if you want to receive one, you make one, by the date agreed and hand it in - as a result you would receive one from another member who has participated (all anonymously of course!)
